STAMFORD, Conn. -- The City of Stamford will graduate the fourth Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Class on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. in the lobby of Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard, Stamford.

“We learned firsthand by our experience with Superstorm Sandy how important it is to have trained volunteers to offer assistance,” said Thaddeus Jankowski, director of Public Safety, Health and Welfare. The 28 members of CERT provided more than 900 volunteer hours during the Superstorm Sandy.

The graduating class will join the previous graduates, bringing the Stamford CERT up to 54 active members.

The mission of the Stamford CERT program is to train volunteer members to safely care for themselves and their neighbors during emergencies or disasters, and to assist first responders when agencies are overtaxed during a critical response.
