The bills erroneously charged delinquent payers an additional one year of interest for the 2012 and 2013 tax years, city officials said.

Upon learning of the error, Mayor David Martin directed city officials to immediately contact EOS CCA to alert it about the error and demand a remedy. EOS CCA has acknowledged and accepted full responsibility for the error, officials said.

Residents who have not paid their delinquent motor vehicle tax yet can call EOS CCA to receive the correct amount due. EOS CCA will be sending corrected bills to delinquent payers by Wednesday, Dec. 31. All individuals who received a bill and paid it in full will receive a refund for the additional one year of interest charged within 30 days.

Customer service at EOS CCA can be reached at 800-896-8038. The city has also added resources to its Tax Helpline at 203-977-5888 at EOS CCA’s expense.

Any additional concerns can be addressed to Bill Napoletano, Revenue Services Manager for the City of Stamford, at 203-977-4144 or bnapoletano@stamfordct.gov.

As a result of this inconvenience, EOS CCA has agreed to reduce its customary collection fee for those accounts that have overpaid. The city has had a productive relationship with EOS CCA.

“While this error is regrettable, I am pleased by management’s quick attention to this matter,” said City Tax Collector Bill Forker.

The error extends only to interest obligations on the delinquent motor vehicle tax bills. The adjustment will decrease the delinquent interest amount and collection fee only. Residents are still responsible for paying any delinquent tax owed to the City of Stamford.
