Stamford Beaches Require Stickers May 1

STAMFORD, Conn. — In addition to going to the gym and buying a new swimsuit, Stamford residents should add getting a parking permit to their to-do lists for summer.

Parking stickers will be needed at Cove Island Park, West Beach, Cummings Park, John Boccuzzi Park at Southfield and Dorothy Heroy Park beginning May 1, a city press release said. The permits will be needed until Sept. 30.

Stickers may be purchased in the Cashiering and Permitting Office on the first floor of the Government Center from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will stay open until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday from May 14 to June 28, the release said.

Resident stickers are $20, and $7 for seniors, the release said. The vehicle must be registered to the senior citizen to receive the discounted price.

The fee for residents with vehicles registered elsewhere is $95, $35 for seniors. Nonresidents can purchase a sticker for $225 and use it only during the week, not on holidays or weekends, the release said.

To purchase a beach sticker, residents need a valid vehicle registration, a current utility bill, and proof of age to get the senior rate, the release said. Residents with cars registered elsewhere need a current copy of a property tax bill and valid registration, the release said. The names on all documents must match.

Permit prices are the same this summer as last. The Board of Representatives voted against a proposed increase in February, the minutes from the meeting said. Several of dissenting representatives said an increase would discourage people from using the parks and beaches, the minutes said.

City Rep. Mary Uva, whose R-1 district includes several beaches, said the city needs to invest more in capital improvements and security for increased parking prices to be fair, the minutes said.
