The air shipment includes over 25,000 pairs of examination gloves and 8,000 face masks. The delivery is headed to the region as the death toll continues to rise – the virus has infected nearly 4,000 people in five African countries, and killed over 2,000.

“We are working as fast as we can to get personal protective equipment to health centers on the front lines of this crisis,” said AmeriCares Associate Director of Emergency Response Karl Erdmann. “Local health workers are essential to controlling this epidemic, but they are also among the most at risk of contracting the disease when treating patients without the necessary safety equipment.”

This is AmeriCares seventh shipment to the region since the outbreak began. In late August, AmeriCares sent critical antibiotics, medical supplies and safety equipment, including 15,000 pairs of gloves and nearly 10,000 protective masks, as a part of a humanitarian airlift to Monrovia, Liberia.

AmeriCares has been aiding survivors of natural disasters, political conflict and extreme poverty around the world for more than 30 years, saving lives and restoring health and hope.
