Breaking News: Man Charged With Illegal Racing, Negligent Homicide In Area Crash

Sharlene Hays, 53, of Stamford

Sharlene Surprise Hays, a Stamford resident who formerly lived in Westport, died Feb. 13. She was 53 years old.

Hays graduated from Staples High School in Westport in 1976 and went on to Jacksonville University. After returning home from college, she began working for Boatworks Yacht Sales in Rowayton. Hays spent 24 years with the company and retired this past November. Hays had a passion for dogs, especially golden retrievers. In her free time, she enjoyed boating and relaxing on a beach.

She is survived by her mother, Anne Surprise; a brother, Scott, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VFW on Riverside Avenue in Westport. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Golden Retriever Rescue.
