STAMFORD, Conn. As former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took another step closer toward officially receiving the Republican presidential nomination, he was assisted by Stamford voters who selected him with an overwhelming majority in Tuesday's primary.
Romney landed 1,598 of the 2,099 total votes cast in Stamford. His next closest competitor, Ron Paul, had 207 votes, the citys registrar of voters reported. Newt Gingrich finished with 160 votes, followed by Rick Santorum with 90 votes. A total of 42 votes were undecided, the report said.
The winner of the nomination will be looking to unseat President Barack Obama in the fall.
