Bellas had gotten out of her car, a 2001 Oldsmobile, at about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of 2539 Bedford St., the condo complex where she lived, because her garage door opener was not working, according to the Stamford Advocate.
As her neighbor attempted to help her, the car began to roll, hitting both women with the open driver’s door and knocking them to the ground, police said.
Bellas was treated at Stamford Hospital by the Trauma Team but died of her injuries, police said.
Her was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Virginia (Pagliaro) Bellas was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of Frank Pagliaro and Anna Marie (Rapillo) Pagliaro.
Bella attended St. Leo’s Parish, where she was a member of the traditional choir and the senior group, serving as treasurer.
She had worked part time at Stamford Hospital and also at the Giftique store.
She also belonged to the Chesterfield condominium clubhouse group and loved to play cards. She also enjoyed gardening, the Red Sox, and cooking for her family, most notably making spaghetti and meatballs, and baking pies, pumpkin bread, and Christmas cookies. She was remembered fondly by her neighbors, according to a story in the Stamford Advocate.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald Bellas and wife Debbie of East Bridgewater, Mass.; David Bellas and wife Kathy of Old Lyme; Richard Bellas of Stamford; one daughter, Diane Prunotto and husband John of Stamford; and 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two brothers, Frank Pagliaro of Trumbull and Donald Pagliaro and wife Albina of Florida.
She was the wife of the late George N. Bellas. She was also predeceased by her stepmother, Rosemary (Giandonato) Pagliaro; sisters Louisa (Pagliaro) Bevans and Ann (Pagliaro) Williams; and brother Michael (Mickey) Pagliaro.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford.
The burial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at St. Leo Church, 24 Roxbury Rd. in Stamford, with internment to follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Leo's Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT or to a charity of one's choice.
