UPDATED 11 p.m. Sunday: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — President Barack Obama approved a request to declare a pre-landfall emergency in Connecticut on Sunday night on Hurricane Sandy.
The approval will allow the state to request federal funding and other assistance in advance of Hurricane Sandy's impact on the state, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said.
"I would like to thank President Obama for understanding the necessity of declaring an emergency in our state in advance of the storm," Malloy said. "As each forecast has come in, it's become more and more clear that this storm will have a major impact on Connecticut. We cannot wait until after it hits to begin the process of seeking emergency assistance. State emergency management personnel under my direction have already been working with the FEMA team assigned to Connecticut to coordinate these efforts, understanding the urgency our residents are facing."

The delclaration would allow the state to request extra money and assistance prior to Hurricane Sandy making landfall late Sunday night.
“Hurricane Sandy is a serious threat to our state and this declaration will allow us to request federal funding and other assistance in Connecticut in advance of the storm,” Malloy said.
In a news release Malloy said that during a conversation with Obama Sunday afternoon he believed that the president and other federal emergency management officials are taking Sandy very seriously.
“As the hours go by, we are more and more certain that Hurricane Sandy will have a substantial impact on our state and I do not want to wait to get this process going,” Malloy said.

Obama declares a lot of things, seems he keeps forgetting to declare his presidency a catastrophe though. Democrats never wait until they NEED help to go begging for it, its just expected, because of this financial childishness, right now, thanks to Obama AND Malloy, there really isn't any money to hand out. So unfortunately when a real need arises, we need to borrow more instead of useing funds set aside. Maybe this will help wake people up to the truth that we really do need change if we want to have hope.
Thank You President Obama for being on top of things. This is a huge contrast to the village idiot Republican Bush during Katrina..Hopefully if any Republicans have storm damage they will not ask for help as they would never want a handout from the democrats///YEAH RIGHT
Its hard to fathom that this help is coming from Democrats Tim, since the wealthiest pay over 90% of taxes and most of them are Republicans. Republicans mostly pay taxes and Democrats largely collect benefits, just how it is.

Arithmetic is not your best subject, is it ? Romney says that raising taxes on the very wealthy would have very little impact on our country's budget, because, of course, there are so few very wealthy taxpayers. He made no mention of how skilled the very wealthy have become at avoiding paying taxes, with offshore accounts and other tax dodges. His arithmetic on that statement was unusually accurate, for him. Even Warren Buffet says it is ridiculous that he pays a lower tax rate now than his secretary.
On the other hand, raising the rates on the miilions of people we call middle class would bring in an enormous amount because there are so many of us and we do not have access to the Cayman Islands so we just pay our taxes.
You make it sound as if you are an expert on how easy it is to collect benefits and who collects. That suggests experience inconsistent with your loyalty to the Romney/Ryan party. Are you a wannabe republican ?

You forgot to mention Romney is the King of the off shore accounts..Hopefully once he loses the election next week an investigation will be open into possible criminal activity that came to light over the last 6 month into Romney and his time with Bain.
