Noon update: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Traffic on highways continue to remain relatively light while the drivers that have gone out have seen plenty of spin-outs and a pair of flipped cars in Norwalk and Greenwich.
Coastal towns may soon start to hear the clatter of sleet on roofs and windows as temperatures warm up slightly. Inland towns continue to see heavy snow with snowfall rates of a staggering 2-4 inches per hour.
Conn. state police continue to urge drivers to stay off the roads.
9:30 a.m. update: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- An overturned auto was reported on northbound Interstate 95 just north of Exit 3 in Greenwich at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
A disabled tractor-trailer was also reported on I-95 northbound between Exits 5 and 6 in Greenwich. The right lane was closed.
An accident was reported on the southbound Merritt Parkway in Fairfield between Exit 44 for Route 58/Black Rock Turnpike and Exit 42 for Route 57 at about 9:30 a.m.
Highway conditions were deteriorating Thursday morning as the storm appeared to strengthen and snowfall became heavier.
Traffic cameras from the state Department of Transportation showed snow-covered highways and very light but slow-moving traffic.
Original story at 7:30 a.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut state police are urging commuters to take it slow on roads on Thursday morning as the predicted snowstorm rolls into the area.
"Roads are slippery. Accidents [and] spin outs increasing," the state police tweeted at 7 a.m. "Slow speeds a must. Stay off roads if possible."
No major accidents were reported on I-95, the Merritt Parkway or I-84 in Danbury as of 7:30 a.m. and many drivers seemed to be heeding the warning to stay of the roads.
Gov. Dannel Malloy banned tandem tractor trailers from state highways as of 4 a.m.
Metro-North announced it would run on a reduced service schedule on Thursday due to the storm.
