No Cause of Death Yet for Woman Found on I-95

WESTPORT, Conn. – State police were still investigating the suspicious death of a woman found on Interstate 95 in Westport last Thursday night. The woman was identified as 43-year-old Michelle M. Cassano, address unknown, an updated statement from Lt. Paul Vance says.

An autopsy was performed last Friday, but her cause of death has not yet been pinpointed. A spokesperson at the state medical examiner's office in Farmington on Tuesday said the results of additional tests were pending.

An off-duty officer spotted Cassano’s body on the Exit 18 entrance ramp to I-95 southbound last Thursday shortly before midnight, Vance said in an earlier statement. Troopers found her body between the entrance ramp acceleration lane and the right lane of the highway.

Cassano, who Vance said showed signs of "significant visible trauma," was pronounced dead at the scene by Westport EMS. Out-of-state family has been notified of her death, Vance said.

Detectives found items at the scene believed to belong to Cassano. Several witnesses were interviewed, and no vehicles related to this incident were located in the vicinity of her body, Vance said.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything in the area of the Exit 18 on-ramp that appeared suspicious that night to call 203-696-2500. All calls will be kept confidential.
