NBC Sports to Bring 450 Jobs to Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – The NBC Sports Group will move to Stamford's old Clairol factory on Blachley Road and bring a minimum of 450 jobs with it next September, Chairman Mark Lazarus announced Tuesday.

NBC Sports is the fourth company to take advantage of Gov. Dannel Malloy’s “First Five” economic development program, designed to attract businesses to Connecticut. The program offers companies tax incentives for creating 200 jobs within two years or investing $25 million and creating 200 jobs in five years, a press release said. The other three companies are CIGNA, TicketNetwork and ESPN.

“It proves Stamford and Connecticut are great places to do business in,” Malloy said during a press conference from NBC Sports Group’s new location.

The 450 new jobs will include 300 from NBC Sports locations in other areas of the country and 150 new positions, Lazarus said. The company is not leaving the other locations, but has a surplus of people in those locations, he said. NBC Sports Group includes NBC Sports, NBC Olympics, NBC Sports Digital, Versus and the Comcast Sports Management Group.

The 450 jobs total does not include those at Versus that have already moved to Stamford, and jobs created by the NHL Network, which will get a “state-of-the-art” studio as part of its 10-year partnership with the NBC Sports Group. This will be the first location where the NHL Network has a major presence, commissioner Gary Bettman said.

“Enough dating, it’s time to move in together,” the Hockey Commissioner said of Tuesday’s announcement.
