Timothy F. Anderson, of 58 Sleepy Hollow Lane, was arrested on multiple assault charges on March 23 in the attack on his mother, Maryanne Anderson, 76, in their home, police said.

She suffered severe injuries, including significant bleeding on the brain, and died March 26 after she was removed from a ventilator. She had undergone emergency surgery to relieve cranium pressure on her brain.

In a court appearance Tuesday, the charge against Timothy Anderson was upgraded to murder, the Advocate said. He will be arraigned on that charge May 6, and no pleas have been entered in the case, the Advocate said.

Anderson remains held on $500,000 bond at the Bridgeport Correctional Center. He is also charged with first-degree assault of an elderly person, first-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Anderson beat his mother after she confronted him about not taking his medication, police said. He angrily told her that he had been taking his medication, then grabbed his mother and punched her in the face repeatedly, police said.

She shouted for her other son, John, 50, to call the police. The brothers fought for a few moments before Timothy Anderson fled out of the house and through the woods, police said. He was found shortly after on Haig Avenue, police said.

Police did not say what the medication is that led to the attack.
