John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District Connecticut announced on Tuesday that Atlanta resident Shamar “Sheist” Madden has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute, 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.
According to court documents, between August 2016 and February the following year, Madden, Malek Long - who has pleaded guilty to the same charge - and other conspired to utilized the United States Postal Service to ship “substantial” quantities of marijuana from California to New Haven, which was then distributed throughout the state. Madden would then travel to and from Georgia to “pick up his share of the cash proceeds from the marijuana trafficking enterprise.”
Madden was stopped at LaGuardia Airport on Feb. 22 last year while in possession of $19,740 in cash. Investigators also seized $404,000 in cash from two storage lockers that Long maintained in a West Haven storage facility.
Following arraignment, Madden was released on $50,000 bond. He is due back in court on July 23, when he will face a maximum term of 40 years in state prison. Long, a New Haven resident, pleaded guilty to the same charges on Dec. 12 last year, was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment.
