Injured Stamford Officer Leaves Intensive Care

STAMFORD, Conn. — The Stamford Police Officer who fell 20 feet during a foot pursuit early Thursday morning has left the intensive care unit at Norwalk Hospital, Sgt. Joseph Kennedy said Tuesday.

“I want him [Officer Troy Strauser] to be selfish,” Kennedy, president of the police union, said, explaining that he doesn’t want Strauser to worry about anything other than getting better.

Strauser’s mental and physical strength have helped him so far, Kennedy said. He added that the department’s chaplain has reached out to the family and that the department’s peer support system is helping Strauser's family and his fellow officers.

Police have tried to stay away from the hospital as much as possible to give the Strausers the privacy they need, he said. Strauser can still only have limited visitors, Kennedy said.

“We’re following doctors orders,” Kennedy said, adding that he hopes Strauser will fully recover and return to the force.
