John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced this week that East Haven resident Bryan Kelly, 46, a former member of the Hamden Police Department waived his right to be indicted on Monday and has pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids.

In December last year, the Statewide Narcotics Task Force West executed a court-authorized search of Kelly’s home, where they seized an estimated 25,000 pills and 530 vials of anabolic steroids. Further analysis of the phone found numerous text messages relating to Kelly’s purchases and redistribution of steroids.

Durham noted that at the time of his arrest last year, Kelly was a police officer with the Hamden Police Department.

Investigation into Kelly’s dealings determined that he purchased steroids from his supplier beginning in October 2016 and he has been distributing them to friends and colleagues since. He has since retired from the department.

Following his guilty plea, Kelly is due back in court later this year, when he will face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
