Artists are currently putting the finishing touches on their creations at the Artist’s Studio at The Davenport, 84 W. Park Place, for "Dinosaurs Rule! in Stamford Downtown." About three dozen artists from throughout the tristate area have been selected to participate. They are creating works of art on unpainted fiberglass dinosaurs.

One of those artists is Flavia Lodato, a native of Brazil who moved to the United States a decade ago and now calls Stamford home.

"I am very excited. It is my first time and I am very happy and glad to be chosen as one of the artists," she said. "I feel very lucky."

Her work is titled "Childhood" and will feature three baby dinosaurs with their mother.

Another first-time participant in the Stamford downtown art exhibit is Amrita Majumder of Stamford. She also uses her background and created a mother-and-child design that draws on Indian folk art.

"It looks fun and I just wanted to do it," she said. Last year, she helped another artist with art that was created on benches. But this is the first time she has participated as a solo artist.

A veteran of the public downtown art show, Barbara Post Campbell has been involved in five previous outdoor shows and said it has always been a joy and a challenge.

"I love the creativity and the challenge and I also love to be with other artists. I think it is great," said the former Stamford resident who now lives in San Francisco.

The studio will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and again on May 2, May 3, May 9 and May 10. This studio space has been donated by the Kaufman Organization and the Davenport.

Each dinosaur is sponsored by a business or organization. After the summer-long exhibit, the dinosaurs will be rounded up and refurbished for an auction with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Stamford EMS and the Stamford Police Foundation.

On June 10, Stamford Downtown will host an opening reception for "Dinosaurs Rule! in Stamford Downtown." This official kickoff celebration and tours for sponsors and the public will be held at The Davenport.  For an invitation call 203-348-5285.
