STAMFORD, Conn. -- Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad completed her 48-hour marathon swim in Midtown Manhattan and raised $103,000 for Stamford's AmeriCares to distribute to Superstorm Sandy victims, according to The Washington Post .

Riverside's Carol Shattuck, who is the chief of staff of AmeriCares Foundation was on hand and also swam a relay with other staff members and Nyad for 15 minutes, The Washington Post article said.

Nyad, 64, gained notoriety for becoming the first person to swim from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Fla. without a shark cage, according to article.
