Demolition Work Begins For Part Of Stamford's Urban Transitway

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Demolition work will begin Monday near Elm Street and Myrtle Avenue in Stamford's South End, the city announced.

The work, which is part of the city's Urban Transitway, will be done at 402 Elm St., the former site of a Subway. Traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction during the demolition.

Work will continue through Friday.

"The Engineering Department will begin demolition on 402 Elm Street (Subway building) on Monday, Jan. 20, as part of the Urban Transitway project," a statement from the city's Operations Department said. "The demolition is expected to disrupt traffic throughout the week and end on January 24. Throughout the demolition, traffic flow may be reduced to one lane in each direction. Stamford Police will be on site to direct traffic. Residents traveling in the area should expect delays."
