On the night of the drawing, Johanna Moreno of Torrington decided to take a chance. She purchased only one ticket for the drawing, which had a jackpot of $758.7 million, the second largest in Powerball history.

“I really don’t play that often and I only had a couple of dollars on me,” Moreno said. “I’m just in shock, I couldn’t believe it!”

The Powerball winning numbers drawn on Wednesday night were: 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26 with a Powerball of 4. Moreno’s ticket matched the first 5 numbers drawn. The numbers played were a combination of Moreno’s children’s birthdays.

After seeing the winning numbers posted on Facebook, Moreno ran to retrieve her ticket.

“I knew the numbers right away,” she said. “I jumped for joy! I put it in my purse and zipped it up but could barely sleep!”

Moreno already has plans for her winnings.

“It’s been difficult lately, but now I plan to get a car, a house for the kids and go to school,” she said.

After receiving her check Thursday at CT Lottery headquarters, Moreno said, “I’m very thankful—it’s a blessing.”

For selling the winning ticket, North Elm Mobil located on 100 N. Elm St. in Torrington will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
