Couple Held in Stamford Bank Robbery

STAMFORD, Conn. — A man and woman suspected of robbing a Citizens Bank in downtown Stamford on March 19 were arrested in Virginia on Friday, Capt. Richard Conklin said.

Kevin Bolden and his girlfriend, Moneek Grant, were stopped driving a gray Volvo station wagon with stolen Virginia license plates, Conklin. The arresting officer, Lt. Becky Adcock of the Nelson County Sherriff’s Department, ran the plates because something “piqued her interest,” Conklin said.

Bolden, 46, is also a suspect in the March 8 robbery of a Woodbridge bank, Conklin said. In addition, police are trying to connect him to four other Connecticut bank robberies, including heists at a People’s United Bank in Stamford on March 12 and one in Greenwich on March 22, Conklin said.

While in custody Grant, 34, of New Haven confessed to the bank robberies, Conklin said. There was no warrant for her arrest in connection with any of the robberies, Conklin said, adding that she was believed to be in the car during the robbery of Citizens Bank and having written the demand notes.

During the motor vehicle stop, police found Connecticut license plates in the glove box, crack cocaine and $6,000 in cash, Conklin said. The cash had red-dye on it, which may have come from the pack that exploded in the Volvo after Bolden left the Stamford bank, Conklin said.

Stamford Police suspect Bolden of entering the bank and handing the teller a note demanding cash, he leaving in the Volvo with the money.

The two are being held in Virginia as fugitives, Conklin said. He was not sure when they would be brought to Connecticut.

In addition to the charges in Connecticut, Bolden and Grant also face charges in Virginia of stealing license plates and possession of narcotics, Conklin said.

“We’re really happy to have them in custody, and that no one was hurt,” Conklin said.
