Construction Projects Slated Along The Merritt To Begin Monday

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Construction is beginning again on the Merritt Parkway/Route 15 in Stamford and New Canaan, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The project began in August 2013 and consists of 6.5 miles of roadway resurfacing, safety improvements, landscaping enhancements, and rehabilitation of five historic bridges that cross Route 15.

The construction zones will be from the Greenwich town line just north of Exit 31 (North Street) to the vicinity of Exit 37 (Route 124/South Avenue). Traffic will be shifted on Route 15 SB and NB near the area south of Newfield Avenue Bridge.

You should expect lane closures during these times:

Route 15 northbound -- Monday-Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Friday from 8 p.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m., and Sunday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Route 15 southbound -- Monday-Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m., Sunday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

ramp areas -- Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

other roadways -- Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.

The bridges that will be rehabilitated are Bridge 00712, Route 124 (South Avenue); Bridge 00710R, Metro North Railroad; Bridge 00708, Ponus Ridge; Bridge 00702, River Bank Road; Bridge 00700 Guinea Road. The DOT project was awarded to O&G Industries at a cost of over $53 million, and it's anticipated to be finished in September 2016.
