? On Tuesday, Stamford Hospital officially started construction on the new hospital, which is expected to be completed in a single phase by 2016 for an estimated cost of $450 million.

? One commuter train derailed and hit another during Friday evening's rush hour near the Fairfield Metro train station. The National Transportation Safety Board arrived Saturday morning to lead the investigation. The wreck led to the cancellation of train service between South Norwalk and New Haven.

? Residents found out that their taxes will be going up 3.41 percent as the Board of Finance set the annual mill rate Tuesday night.

? A home on Ann Street in Stamford was shot into several times Thursday night. No one was injured. A witness told police that a single person entered the home’s yard and opened up fire.

? Powerball had its second largest drawing Saturday night with a jackpot of $600 million. Business was booming at the more than 60 places in the city that sell lottery tickets.
