College Admissions Explained at Stamford JCC Forum

To say that the college admissions process can be daunting for you and your college-bound student would be an understatement. The Stamford Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family Service will present an event to help ease the process. It’ll take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Jewish Community Center, 1035 Newfield Ave., Stamford.

The event, called College Ahead, is intended to be comprehensive, and parents and students are encouraged to bring all questions. Experts who know the answers will be in attendance. They include admissions officers from universities such as Indiana University in Bloomington and the University of Tampa, among others. Claire Friedlander, Jewish Family Service college consultant, will serve as moderator.

Among expected topics of discussion are assessing your PSAT scores, finding the best time to take the SAT or ACT, getting parents to accompany students on college visits, finding the importance in volunteer activities, encouraging school involvement, selecting the best summer programs and deciding among colleges.

Jewish life at college also will be discussed. For more information, call 203-921-4161.
