City Of Stamford Hires New Health Director

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Jennifer A.M. Calder has been named Stamford's new Director of Health.

“I am happy that the selection committee recommended such an impressive candidate like Jennifer,” said Mayor David Martin. “Her extensive background in the public and private sectors and in education shows that she will be able to enhance the excellent work done by our health department and ensure Stamford residents remain healthy and safe. Thank you to everyone who helped in the selection process to make sure that we got the best person for this position.”

Martin selected Calder based on a search committee's recommendation. 

Calder currently is a faculty member at New York Medical College in the departments of Epidemiology and Community Health and Columbia University in the Department of Epidemiology.

She has worked in areas such as vaccine preventable diseases, outbreak investigation and clinical and regulatory veterinary medicine, as well as on the New York City Bioterrorism Preparedness Plan.

“Protecting the health and safety of Stamford residents is the priority of the Office of Public Safety, Health and Welfare," said Ted Jankowski the director of public safety, health and welfare. "We are fortunate to be able to bring aboard such a highly qualified and talented individual in Dr. Jennifer Calder as Stamford’s Health Director. 

"Dr. Calder has exceptional credentials and brings a passion for Health to the City of Stamford. Her appointment supports the message to both residents and the staff of the Health Department, that the Health and Safety of the Stamford community and the caring for Stamford residents – including its most vulnerable – is a priority. I’m confident she will be an excellent Director of Health for the City of Stamford."
