Citizens Bank Robbed in Downtown Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — The Citizens Bank on Atlantic Street was robbed just before noon Monday, said Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department.

Conklin said a black male entered the bank wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap, and handed a teller a note saying he was robbing the bank. A teller gave the man cash and slipped a red dye pack into one of the bundle. The suspect left the bank and was driven away in a gray Volvo, Conklin said.

The note said that the man had a gun, but it was not seen, police said.

Police believe a black woman in her 50s and wearing glasses was driving the vehicle, Stamford police Sgt. Christopher DiCarlo said. The vehicle was last seen headed south on Atlantic Street when the red dye pack blew up, and the suspect threw the bundle with the pack out the window, and continued with the rest of the money, he said.

The amount of money taken is still being determined by the bank, DiCarlo said.

There are similarities between Monday’s robbery and the robbery that occurred at a People's United Bank last week, Conklin said. Police still have to further examine video footage and other information received, Conklin said.
