Andrew Joseph, 57, with the last known address of 642 Bishop St., Bridgeport, was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
He was held on $25,000 bond and authorities were seeking to have that raised at his court appearance Friday because of concerns that he may flee to his native country of Haiti.
Police accused Joseph of beginning a sexual relationship with a then 12-year-old girl. Police said he had "groomed" the girl for a period of time before beginning sexual relations. The girl is now 14-years-old and pregnant and believes Joseph is the father and she went to police.
Further DNA testing will be done to see if Joseph is the father, police said. Officers from the Special Investigations Juvenile Unit received a warrant for his arrest. However, they believe Joseph knew of the warrant and moved to both New Haven and Bridgeport to avoid the police.
Police discovered Joseph was a livery cab driver who made trips to surrounding airports from Stamford.
Police created a ruse about a client needing a 4:30 a.m. pickup Friday morning to go to JFK Airport from an East Side address that was on a dead end street.
When Joseph arrived for his "fare" he was arrested without incident by police.
