Bride, Groom Jump From Burning Stamford Home

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford Fire & Rescue responded to a two-alarm fire on Newfield Avenue just before 2 a.m. Saturday, the Stamford Advocate reports. The fire was officially extinguished at about 9:30 a.m. after an excavator was brought in to tear down walls, the article said.

More than 50 people were in the house for a pre-wedding celebration when the fire began, the article said. All the people got out safely, including the bride and groom, who had to jump out of a second story window to escape the blaze, the article said.

“It was a significant volume by the time we got here,” Stamford Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief John Pritchard was quoted as saying.

After the fire was put out, the family of eight was told not to re-enter the house until the structure was secured, the article said. In addition to nine Stamford Fire and Rescue units, engines from Belltown, Springdale and Turn of River assisted in putting out the fire.
