STAMFORD, Conn. - Hurricane Sandy knocked out power for more than 60 percent of customers in Stamford as of Tuesday morning, according to Connecticut Light and Power reports.
An estimated 34,277 out of 55,694 customers in Stamford were without power 7 a.m. Tuesday. It’s unclear when customers can expect power to return and C L and P has not issued at statement at this time.
The National Weather Service has downgraded Sandy to a post-tropical cyclone, but the storm is still producing sustained winds up to 65 mph according to the NWS 5 a.m. update. A wind advisory is still in effect for Fairfield County until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Weather officials said the brunt of the storm hit the area Monday night, but additional power outages could occur throughout Tuesday. Nearly 620,000 customers lost power across Connecticut during Hurricane Sandy, according to C L and P and United illuminating Company reports.
