STAMFORD, Conn. -- It was in 5th grade when Jessica Rabasco, now 25 years old, found her love of doing hair.

She was always braiding and curling her sister Christina’s hair and her cousin’s hair as well. In 7th grade, she did an updo for her cousin’s communion and another cousin’s junior prom. She knew her dream and pursued it.

“I wanted to make it my career because I was so passionate about it. I always saw a ‘style’ on someone just by looking at their face. It’s so much fun!,'' said Rabasco.

Born and raised in the Glenbrook section of Stamford, Rabasco is glad to be back in her old neighborhood with her own salon called Tagliare, and she could not be happier with the friendly people she has met and the businesses surrounding her.

Pronounced, (Ta-Lee-Ah-Re) the name means "to cut" in Italian. Her beautiful salon, which is located on 490 Glenbrook Road, is tastefully decorated with scenes from Italy throughout which she did to honor her Italian (Settefrati) heritage.

“The best part about this place is when it was a different salon, my grandfather used to come in every so often and being that he is my biggest role model, I felt like I needed to get this place and I needed to put a little of him in here and that is my European atmosphere which now reminds me of him every day.” Rabaso said.

After graduating Stamford High School in 2007, Rabasco went on to Ricci’s Academy for Cosmetology in Newtown, and is now a professional stylist/colorist. She has worked with Wella, L’Oreal, Goldwell, Clairol, Kenra and other color lines as well. She is certified in Brazilian Knot extensions and a few different kinds of Keratin/Brazilian/Smoothing treatments.

While in school, Rabasco was an assistant for four years at Noelle Day Spa in Stamford and then worked at Salon Wayne as a stylist for 5 years. She is currently enrolled at Norwalk Community College pursuing a degree in business. She also takes other courses for hair treatment.

“My grandfather always said if I wanted something, I have to work hard at it and I will be able to do anything I wanted. He was right. I went for my dream, worked my butt off, and he has been with me in spirit every step of the way,” said Rabasco.

Rabasco started the venture all on her own. She saved for new equipment, rent, paint and did it without the financial help from anyone including a bank or even a credit card. “It feels good. It’s a big feeling of accomplishment especially at my age,” Rabasco said.

Tagliare Salon is unique with it’s affordable pricing for every age. There are different packages available so clients can afford to come every four or five weeks for a touch up or a blow dry once a week if they choose. She even offers a discount for senior citizens.

“Times are tough, everything is expensive and I wanted everyone to feel special by keeping up with their hair and not breaking the bank doing so,'' Rabasco said.

The salon is open six days a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. It is closed on Monday.
