More than 15 Stamford residents will be recognized for their volunteer contributions to the Stamford community. The event is set for 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library at 115 Vine Road.
The purpose of Stamford Volunteer Day is to recognize “grass roots” volunteers who have contributed their time and talent to the Stamford community, representatives said. Martin Anderson, Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking at Webster Bank, will serve as chair of the awards program.
“It is so important to recognize the helpers amongst us who diligently and quietly work to meet the needs of the community,” said Kim Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut. “The critical work of non-profits – to shelter and feed the homeless – to respond to women who are victims of domestic violence in their time of crisis – to work with the mentally ill – is not possible without the help of dedicated volunteers.”
The following is a list of a few of the year’s winners:
- Outstanding New Youth Individual Volunteer: Linda Rivera for her work with AITE’s Interact Club
- Outstanding Established Youth Individual Volunteer: Emma Snover for her work with Neighbor’s Link
- Outstanding New Youth Volunteer Group: AITE’s Interact Club
- Outstanding New Adult Individual Volunteer: Heidi O’Grady for her work with West Hill’s College and Career Center
- Outstanding Established Adult Individual Volunteer: Lisa Crowley for her work with the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis
- Outstanding New Adult Volunteer Group: Nestle Waters for their work at Childcare Learning Centers
- Outstanding Established Adult Volunteer Group: Captain Bernie Weiss, Captain John McGuiness and Captain Stewart Napoleon for their work with the Young Mariner’s Foundation
- Outstanding Volunteer Couple: Linda Quinton & Sammy (dog) for their time spent at the Ferguson Library
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Patricia Phillips for her work at Person to Person
