The funding extends an outreach program that immersed 1,150 students at six middle schools in environmental studies for a third year.

Last year, students got experience both in their own classrooms and in the field--the Teaching Aquarium and Learning Lab at SoundWaters Coastal Center and in outdoor laboratories at Cove Island Park.

An evaluation at the end of the academic year showed a significant improvement in the students’ understanding of the impact of conservation, the importance of the ecosystem and scientific measurement techniques.

Tronox is a Stamford-based global leader in processing minerals and marketing products like titanium oxide pigment used to add brightness and durability in paint, plastics, paper and other everyday consumables.
