Stephen Hough Performs With Stamford Symphony On Valentine's Weekend

STAMFORD, Conn. – The Stamford Symphony is celebrating Valentine’s Day weekend with Rossini, Elgar, Beethoven and Mozart while welcoming back British pianist Stephen Hough.

He will be performing with the symphony on Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. and Feb.15 at 3 p.m. at Stamford’s Palace Theatre.

Hough is an acclaimed pianist, music writer and composer with a range of music awards including the 2001 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, for which he was the first recipient who performs classical music.   

He also holds the 2008 Northwestern University’s Jean Gimbel Lane Prize in Piano Royal and the 2010 Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award.

In January 2014, Hough was made a commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth in the New Year’s Honors List.

Hough has appeared with major European and American orchestras including Los Angeles, and New York philharmonics as well the Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh and San Francisco symphonies. Many works in Hough’s catalog of more than 50 albums have garnered international prizes, several Grammy nominations, eight Gramophone Magazine Awards and the Gramophone ‘Gold Disc’ Award in 2008 for best recording in the last 30 years.

Tickets for this Stamford Palace performance start at $22 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 203-325-4466 or by visiting stamfordsymphony.org.

Concert goers can attend a pre-show cocktail party and light dinner at the upper lobby of the theater on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

This $80 offer includes a premium concert ticket. Music Director Eckart Preu will be visiting the group to warm them up for the program and share a glass of wine.
