STAMFORD, Conn. -- Westhill High School honored Memorial Day, and the men and women who have died defending this country, by raising funds for military veterans and their families.

On May 21, more than 40 members of the Westhill faculty raised more than $250 for the 2015 “Jeans For Troops” fundraising drive benefiting the GI Go Fund, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans returning home find employment, go to college, access their health care and financial benefits, and link to housing.

During the drive, in which schools and companies from all across the country participated, Westhill High School history teacher Erin Taylor organized the opportunity to wear jeans to work in exchange for a $5 donation to the GI Go Fund.

“For generations, America’s teachers have been responsible for educating America’s children,” said Jack Fanous, GI Go Fund executive director.

“They have always been individuals that mothers and fathers could rely on to set a positive example for their children. This Memorial Day, teachers around the country have set the example to our nation’s children that this is a day to remember the men and women who fought to preserve our liberties, our freedoms, and the American way of life.”

The GI Go Fund is an organization on the cutting edge of offering support to veterans, providing veterans with innovative ways of finding employment, securing their educational and health benefits, as well as providing aid and assistance to low income and homeless veterans.

Proceeds from this program will go to help the organization further its mission for veterans. The organization is currently looking to provide veterans with the tools and resources they need to find a steady job, from providing veterans with career mentorship to helping them access job training resources that will help them find employment with companies looking to hire veterans.
