Patterned after the hit TV show, this dancing fundraiser has proven to be a local hit.

"It's certainly our biggest event, and honestly, the most fun too," said Curtain Call Executive Director Lou Ursone. "Watching the volunteer star dancers grow in their lessons is always great, but watching the camaraderie that develops among the teams is the best part."

According to Ursone, this year's group seems to have really taken on the challenge with the friendly competition already driving this event toward an all-time fundraising high for the organization.

"I really think we can break some records this year," Ursone said.

A list of participating dancers can be found by visiting http://www.curtaincallinc.com/specialevents.asp.

Judges for this year’s event are Tony Award-winner, William Berloni; Jimmy Locust, artistic director and owner of Locust Performing Arts Center; and Maureen Pavia, director of Dancing Classrooms.

Curtain Call hosts this fundraiser in hopes of introducing new families to the theater company while also raising money through a somewhat non-traditional way.

"We really wanted something different than the usual 'rubber chicken event,' " said Jami Sherwood, co-chair of the event.

The cocktail hour at UConn Stamford will feature a wide variety of top-shelf food and drink provided by such area vendors as Bar Rosso, Columbus Park Trattoria, Crystal Rock, LLC., Bank Street Events, David’s Soundview Catering, DiMare Pastry Shop, EOS Greek Cuisine, Eventi Café, Heineken, Marcia Selden Catering, Myrna’s Bistro, napa and co, Nutty Bunny, Palmer’s Market, Parkway Diner, Riko’s Pizza, Sushi Village, Sweet Lisa’s Exquisite Cakes, The Capital Grille, The Water’s Edge at Giovannis and Zyr Vodka.

Tickets and sponsorships for the event start at $125.

"The voting (like sponsoring someone in a walk-a-thon) is a great way to get involved in the process," Ursone said, and it is a very important part of the fundraising.

Awards presented at the event will be Judges' Choice (male and female) and Peoples' Choice - which is based on the number of votes (sponsors) a dancer receives.
