Stamford Woman to Star in School's Opera

STAMFORD, Conn. — Cidalia Alves of Stamford will be starring  next week in Western Connecticut State University’s opera production of “Carmen,” in the title role.

The senior will be sharing the stage with guest performer Daniel Juarez who will portray Don Jose, the other lead role in Georges Bizet’s classic opera, a press release said.

Also joining Alves on the stage are fellow Stamford residents Benedetta Cordaro who will split time as Micaela, and Erick Sanchez who will play, El Remenado, one of the gypsies, the release said.

The opera will be preceded by a brief lecture by Western Connecticut Spanish professor Galina Bhaktiarova, the release said.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids under 12 and senior citizens, and can be bought either on-line or at the door, the release said. Reservations for the opening night dinner can be made by calling the school’s Alumni Office, 203-837-8290.

The performances will take place March 30 and 31 in the Ives Concert Hall at Western’s Midtown Campus , 181 White St., Danbury, CT. 06810.
