STAMFORD, Conn. – An '80s prom night will be held at the Stamford Italian Center on Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning at 8 p.m. as a fundraiser to battle breast cancer.
Shannon Malkin of Stamford is organizing the event, and she will donate proceeds from the dance to her upcoming Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
“I organized the '80s prom because I had trouble raising funds my first year doing the Avon Walk,’’ Malkin said. “It was hard to get people motivated to donate. Then I went to a couple of local charity events and noticed how supportive people were of the causes, so I decided to organize my own fun, signature event that people could get involved in. The people in attendance were all very passionate about the cause and more willing to support it. So the 80s prom was born.”
Tickets for the prom are $75. The night will include live music, food and drinks. James Daniel Entertainment of Stamford will provide the music. Tickets will be $100 at the door.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their best 1980s attire. There will be a dance contest, and a prom king and queen will be named. There will also be raffles and a silent auction.
Malkin will walk 39.3 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on Oct. 19 and 20. It will be her third time participating in the walk.
