The concerts on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. will feature Ilya Kaler, the only violinist to win all three of the most prestigious violin prizes in the world.

This skilled artist has been quoted by the Washington Post as “a consummate musician, in total control at all times, with a peerless mastery of his violin.” He will be performing Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor.

In addition, this concert will feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 that was influenced by Tchaikovsky’s frequent bouts of depression and self-doubt. Also featured will be a piece by living composer Tan Dun called "Self Portrait of Death and Fire" that is based on a dialogue that the composer has with a piece of art on exhibition from Paul Klee.

Kaler will join Music Director Eckart Preu on the stage for an intimate chat one-hour pre-concert at the Free Behind the Baton Lecture.

In addition, Kaler will also make an appearance and participate in a Q&A with the children at the interactive MusiKids program that is free to all concert-going kids at 2 p.m. Sunday.
