The awards will be presented at The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut's annual Heart of Gold Award Dinner, starting at 6 p.m. at the Stamford Marriott.

The Volunteer Center will honor Tim Brown, president and chief executive officer of Nestlé Waters North America and Westhill High School Senior Rachel Katz will receive the 2014 Heart of Gold Scholarship. Geoff Colvin, senior editor-at-large of Fortune Magazine and author of "Talent is Overrated," will be the emcee for the dinner.

Brown was honored for "the many ways in which Nestlé Waters and its employees make an impact on our community through volunteerism," representatives said.

“We are honored to receive the Heart of Gold Award from The Volunteer Center,” said Brown. “At Nestlé Waters, we pride ourselves on creating an employee culture that encourages volunteerism in a community about which we care deeply. Stamford’s remarkable non-profit community supports the most vulnerable in this City and we are committed to assisting them in fulfilling their important missions by sharing our employee talents and energy.”

The Volunteer Center established The Heart of Gold Award in 1995 to recognize and encourage business leaders to build employee volunteerism into their strategic business plans, representatives said.

Katz will receive the $5,000 Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship, which is awarded annually to support the continuing education of an outstanding local student volunteer.

"Rachel’s commitment to volunteerism has truly made a meaningful difference in our community and thereby distinguished her as the 2014 scholarship recipient," representatives said. "Throughout high school, Rachel distinguished herself as an exceptional volunteer. As a youth basketball coach, a mentor to children with severe special needs, and a longtime 'friend' to a young woman with developmental disabilities, Rachel has spent countless hours giving of her time and spirit to youth in our community."
