Donations are being accepted through Friday, Dec. 12, in the lobby and detective bureau hallway of Stamford police headquarters at 805 Bedford St.

Last year, the Stamford Police Association drive collected more than 200 new or lightly used winter coats along with hats, scarves and gloves. The winter coats will be distributed through Person-to-Person, a Darien-based organization that helps those who lack basic necessities, including warm clothing in the winter.

According to Police Officer Jerry Junes, the SPA’s coat drive coordinator, “We’re eager to help as many people as possible in the coming weeks, so that no one has to worry about the bitterly cold weather taking a toll on their health or well-being. We hope to surpass last year’s mark of 200 winter coats along with vital winter accessories to help even more families across Stamford.”

Todd Lobraico, president of SPA said, “During the wintertime, our officers often see kids and adults alike dressed in light windbreakers or sweatshirts because they can’t afford the warm coats they need. This coat drive is our way to lend a helping hand when community members need it most.”

Person-to-Person is a volunteer-driven, community-based agency that provides a wide range of basic services to those in need, including emergency food, clothing, shelter, summer camps providing for children from low-income families and even educational scholarships for college-age students.

For more information or to donate a coat but cannot get to police headquarters, contact Junes at 203- 223-8401.
