Stamford Nonprofit Groups Receive Donations Of Defibrillators

STAMFORD, Conn. — Many organizations throughout Stamford became more heart healthy as the United Way of Western Connecticut gave out automated external defibrillators Thursday.

“Our local nonprofits provide direct service to many people at their locations – so they will now feel confident that they can take quick action in the event of a life-threatening emergency,” said Kimberly Morgan, CEO of the local United Way.

The 59 defibrillators will be spread out among 15 nonprofit organizations. They were paid for through a grant the United Way received from the Herbert and Nell Singer Foundation worth $60,000.

“We hope other towns look to Stamford on how to be heart healthy,” said Jay Sandak of the foundation.

In addition to receiving the defibrillators, representatives of the organizations were also trained by Stamford Emergency Medical Services in hands-only CPR and in how to use the defibrillators.

“Everything you need is there,” said Paul Moeller of Stamford EMS as he described the tools that come with the defibrillator.
