The Board of Education made the announcement during its May 26 meeting, the Bulletin said.

The resident of Stamford was named a finalist for this year's Grammy Foundation Award, which honors music educators 'who have made a significant and lasting contribution in the field of music education,' reported the Wilton Bulletin.

Gawle has been with the school since 1981 and recently announced plans to retire at the end of the school year.
