Stamford Foundation Grant To Increase Affordable Housing

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A recent grant of $8,000 to Stamford's New Neighborhoods, Inc. from the People's United Community Foundation will help increase affordable housing in Fairfield County.

NNI and Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust (BNT) are partnering to develop a five-story building at 515 West Avenue on an open lot on the western edge of Downtown Bridgeport.

NNI is a Stamford-based nonprofit developer and manager of quality low and moderate income housing in Stamford, Norwalk, Danbury and communities across Fairfield County. It will use the funds to move more than 100 units of housing through the nonprofit developer’s pipeline and into construction. When completed, the units will benefit families, retirees, veterans and others who don’t earn enough to rent a standard apartment or build equity to purchase a home.

“We thank the Foundation and the Bank for recognizing the importance of affordable housing as a safety net and springboard to self-sufficiency,” said Ross Burkhardt, NNI president & CEO.

New Neighborhoods, Inc. is Fairfield County’s oldest active nonprofit housing developer, redeveloper, and manager of rental and owner-occupied housing. The organization plans to add another 200 units of housing in Fairfield County over the next two years.
