The lodge is at 943 Hope St. and the event runs from 4-6 p.m. Stand For The Troops (SFTT) and “Train a Dog Save a Warrior” (TADSAW) will join the Elks at the fundraiser.
The event began when the Past Exalted Ruler, Lynda Roscia contacted Stand For The Troops director Maura Kallaway to discuss what the Stamford Elks could do for veterans in need. SFTT is a Fairfield County based nonprofit with a national mission to protect and defend the physical, mental and emotional health of America’s brave warriors. The Stamford Elks were able to provide the funding to help a Veteran in need with a service dog.
TADSAW’s mission is the provide for the training of Medical Alert Service dog for any wounded warrior, active duty or veteran surviving with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), in order to restore and improve the warrior’s quality of life with a canine "Battle Buddy" at no charge to the warrior.
“The Elks are a national organization dedicated to Americanism and charitable work in our communities and has held many charitable events ranging from youth programs to helping our senior citizens, Veterans and other community needs,” Roscia said. “The Elk’s pledge is ‘So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.'”
This free event is open to the public with h'orderves and a cash bar. There will be complimentary champagne offered during cocktail hour. “This event is to bring awareness to the needs of our Veterans and to help them cope with life after their harrowing experiences of being in combat,’’ Roscia said.
She hopes that people will join them for this event on Saturday to learn more about TADSAW as well as other programs through SFTT that can literally save a soldier's life.
