NNI received the Award of Excellence as part of the statewide 2014 National Community Development Week celebration at the State Armory in Hartford from Connecticut Community Development Association (CCDA). Cathleen Miller, NNI construction manager accepted the award on behalf of NNI staff and board, according to a press release.

“It is a privilege to receive this peer recognition,” said Ross Burkhardt, NNI president and chief executive officer. “The Marshall Commons development took over six years from drawing board to keys in doors. It required not only patience but multiple funding sources, including CHFA, DECD, Citibank, and City of Stamford (federal HOME Investment Partnerships and local Capital Budget funds), to complete the project and keep the rent within reach of low and moderate income families and seniors. We thank CCDA for recognizing the commitment it takes to develop below-market rate housing and celebrating that 50 households now have quality housing within their means.”

Tim Beeble, director of the Office of Community Development in Stamford, nominated NNI’s Marshall Commons development.

“It represents quality affordable housing, sensitive to the neighborhood’s historic nature. It is transit oriented," Beeble said. "And, it is the product of a local cooperative effort to assure those of all income levels could be accommodated, even those just graduating from transitional living facilities."
