The students will shop at Payless ShoeSource outlet, at 55 Bedford St., on Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Each child will select their own pair of free new shoes.
The Boys & Girls Club has participated the last three years and has seen 450 members receive free shoes, said Mike Cotela, the club's executive director.
“The Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids program has provided our children with the wonderful opportunity to shop for new shoes and sneakers," he said. "It is only through the generosity and caring of our friends at Payless ShoeSource that our children have this amazing experience.
"We are truly fortunate to have Payless ShoeSource as a community partner and a member of the Boys & Girls Club family.”
The Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids program – which runs in all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries – will give $1.5 million of free shoes to children of families in need this winter. The program began in 2008 in the United States and was extended internationally the following year.
The members who will be receiving new shoes from Payless ShoeSource, participate in the Boys & Girls Club’s after-school program and benefit from programs that promote academic Success, healthy lifestyles and character and leadership development.
