"I am very, very happy for Julia and Kevin and wish them many years of happiness together,” Lou Ursone, executive director of Curtain Call, the theater company which produced "Othello" as its annual “Shakespeare on the Green,” summer performance.
The two first met in 2009 when they were working on Curtain Call’s “Shakespeare on the Green” production of "The Tempest" and have shared the stage with each annual summer performance, the release from Curtain Call said. In "Othello" Maggiola played Desdemona, who is wrongly accused of having an affair with Thompson’s Cassio, the release said.
"But there is no mistaking their on-stage chemistry," Ursone said.
Through the creative process of putting a production together bonds and relationships are often created between everyone involved, the release said. Sometimes the closeness doesn’t last long after the show, even romances or “showmances” however Thompson and Maggiola are expected to become the third couple to start their relationship with “Shakespeare on the Green,” and be married in recent years, according to the release.
Peter Barbieri Jr., an associate art director and director of the Shakespeare program, and his wife, Julia, met in 2008 and are expecting their first child in January, and Joe Efferen and Kari Sweeney, will be married in August, 2014, the release said.
"We have always considered Curtain Call as a huge, extended family," Ursone said. "On opening night, I always say to those new to Curtain Call, 'welcome to the family' and I mean it."
