Retired Stamford Teacher Nancy Heron Dies at 67

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nancy J. Heron, 67, died at her home in Norwalk on Thursday, March 29.

Heron was a former teacher and vice principal for Stamford Schools for many years.

She was born in Boston on Feb. 15, 1945, to the late James I. Heron and the late Gertrude Ann White Heron. She was a graduate of Framingham State Teachers College and received a master’s degree in teaching from Fairfield University.

After her retirement from Stamford Schools, Heron continued teaching at Sylvan Learning Center. Heron was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She enjoyed tennis, golf and bike riding, which she did all over the world.

She is survived by her brother, David B. Heron and his companion, Lynda Hersey, of Reading, Mass.; her sisters, Peggy (Tom) Walsh of Westfield, N.J., Julie Cooney of Riverdale, Ill., Rosemary (Daniel) Mahoney of Natick, Mass., and Maura (Kent) Sharp Acton, Mass. 

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jerome Church in Norwalk. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the AAUW Women’s ScholarshipAlpha Delta Kappa Sorority or a favorite charity.
