New Covenant House, based in Stamford, serves its guests three meals a day, 365-days-per-year, through its soup kitchen and its pantry program. It provides in excess of 711,000 meals annually.
A capital campaign is underway to pay for new quarters for New Covenant House. The soon-to-be-opened facility will include the soup kitchen and a small supermarket-style pantry.
The pantry will offer clients options of foods to take home, as well as an expansion of basic human and health need services, including counseling, medical, clothing, showers, toiletries, hair cuts and immigration services.
After his presentation at the Wednesday breakfast, Anastos toured the new facility with Al Barber, president of Catholic Charities; Paul Harinstein, chairman of the board for New Covenant House; and John Gutman, executive director of New Covenant House.
"I am so honored to be part of this fabulous organization, New Covenant House, making a real difference in people's lives," said Anastos, who is an anchor with the Fox flagship station WNYW-TV in New York City.
New Covenant House, one of the largest programs of Catholic Charities, serves the greater Stamford area, including, New Canaan, Greenwich and Darien.
The guests at New Covenant House include the poor and disadvantaged, including the homeless, working poor, elderly, mentally ill, and disabled.
New Covenant House is an alternative for low-income people to enjoy three meals daily at no charge. The food pantry offers alternatives for families by providing bagged groceries, which is ideal for working families that need a supplement of food to make ends meet each month.
New Covenant House is a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. All contributions in support of NCH are fully tax-deductible.
