Memorial Day Weekend Starts Early in Stamford

On the eve of the Memorial Day weekend, many in Stamford decided to start it early and head to the beach on Friday. Without a cloud in the sky and temperatures reaching the 80s, it was a perfect day to spend on the sand and in the water.

The beachgoers were not the only ones who started the beach season early as many were reminded to go get their beach permits for the summer, Main Street Connect Deputy Editorial Director Christine Hall said. The line at the Government Center went from the cashiering and permitting office all the way through the lobby and into the parking lot, she said.

Parking permits are required at Cove Island Park, Cummings Park, West Beach, South Field and Dorothy Heroy Park from Monday, May 30, through Sept. 5. The permits cost $20 for Stamford residents, and $7 for senior citizens, the city’s website says. For more information about how to purchase a permit, visit the Cashiering and Permitting Division’s page on the city’s website.
