Beginning at 9 a.m., teams of runners will take to the treadmills at Planet Fitness’ 85 Harbor View Ave. location in Stamford to cover the 26.2-mile marathon distance – all while raising funds to purchase holiday gifts and basic living necessities for Stamford families in need.

The event, dubbed the Marathon on Myrtle, is an annual fundraising collaboration between Family Centers and Toyota of Stamford.

“Events like this allow us to strengthen our relationships in the community, while raising funds and awareness for Family Centers and all the people it serves,” said Brandon Campbell, Toyota of Stamford’s general sales manager.

Personal trainers from Planet Fitness will be on hand to provide runners and attendees with body fat screenings, heart rate monitoring and fitness instruction.  Fleet Feet Sports Stamford will also provide runner support.

Last year’s event raised more than $5,000. In addition to supporting Stamford families, the Marathon on Myrtle also raises funds to allow Family Centers to offer preschool scholarships to local families.
